Does Duke Care?

a kid from my school who is #1 and got 2370 on SATs, etc, is applying to duke, and he has legacy, so hes basically in. I'm #3, 2280, etc so i'm pretty sure im a qualified applicant. BUT, when he is accepted, do my chances of acceptance get lowered due to the fact that we go to the same school? it's not even his first choice, hes just applying there cause his mom went.

oh, i got the interview (by submitting my supp. yesterday) and he won't be interviewed.

so whats the deal? can i still get in?

duke is my first choice, it sucks that hes applying...

Yes you can still get in. The admissions office says that kids from the same school are not compared side-by-side, every person is evaluated equally by their merits against the entire applicant pool.
Don't worry about him.

alright thanks.

Whether or not you are accepted will not be affected by his application. At my high school last year there were 3 kids accepted. You are not really directly competing with anyone from your school, it's not like they will even read your applications together. You're only compared to the students in your school as a whole, ie how well you do in the academic environment provided, and at #3 that's pretty doing pretty damn well. It's hard to say not to worry about him because you probably still will, but rest assured that it's not him in particular that you are competing with. :) Plus even if they did compare you, it's not like they can only take one or the other if you're both qualified and they think you'll add what they want to their community. Good luck!

thanks fizz

Did either/both of you apply ED?

it sounds like both of them applied RD

ckmets is correct
