Does everyone have their popcorn ready for Harry & Meghan?

Putting down your country’s future king by continuously calling him Willy in public is another sign of poor etiquettes. It would be humanizing if done with affection but sounds malicious when followed with accusations.

Wasn’t it that the pregnancy news was leaked to the press? So that the news of the pregnancy superseded the news of the wedding.

I’m not sure it was that H & M told their family privately but that the family believes that they leaked the news to the press. The timing of that.

Now H & M can deny that they were the ones who leaked the news, but the family can believe that was who was behind the leak.

To make the pregnancy the star of that news cycle.

I’m not sure if its ethical for us to discuss somebody’s private matters? Are we simply gossiping or more like reviewing a drama made public by participants and their sponsors?

Was Eugenie even mad about it? I mean, she’s visited them in America per the documentary. Maybe they ran it by her first and she was ok with it.

If that was the case, the CC cafe would be a very different place

The entire conversation is discussing someone’s private matters. Pretty sure it’s ethical. But if anyone doesn’t want to discuss, then there is plenty of places to visit here in the cafe.

In that case, here is another article about this drama.

She sounds exactly like her brother-in-law, Harry (both jealous of good fortune of their siblings)but how can she (and Tucker) as majority be so sure about racism not existing for a minority like Meghan.

Re. Putting down the future king by calling him Willy? Maybe, you miss this article?

Perhaps, it is not poor etiquette after all.

The link I posted several posts ago comparing what Kate did (positive) and what Meghan did (negative) when the two women did the same things showed how biased British tabloids have been.

I start to think that I see that type of opinion here, too. No matter what H&M did or did not do, someone has found fault in them.

Especially considering ‘willy’ is also British slang for penis; a bit like d*ck in America! :grinning:

Well, there are men named Richard that are nicknamed Dick.

In UK English, willy is mostly used by children whose parents are aghast at teaching proper names for genitalia, although it is sometimes used by adults. And every single British child named William has been called Willy on the playground.

Regardless, I see no issue with Harry referring to his brother with the nickname he seems to commonly use. It’s not like he addresses him as HRH.

Her name is Catherine NOT Kate, and his name is William not Willy.

Like the user who objects to people calling their father “Dad” in public. ?? William referred to the Queen as “Grannie” in public.

I thought that William was referred to as Wills for a while? Also William calls Harry Harold which is also atrocious , so William can’t really complain.

Depends on the context. In more formal circumstances, he referred to her as Her Majesty or The Queen.

The younger royals tend to be less formal than the older generation. It reminds be of what Andrew Morton wrote about Princess Margaret:

When others referred casually to “your sister,” Princess Margaret would snap haughtily, “You mean the queen.”

:rofl::rofl:

Margaret, btw, was called Margot by her family.

He’s not the one complaining. A couple of other tidbits. Diana often referred to him as Willy the Wombat. Kate called him Big Willy (nice double entendre) when they were at St Andrews. So it’s not a new nickname.

@ljs1, going by a shortened name or nickname is common. Why do you seem offended or adamant that Kate or Willy are called by their given name?

BBC Style Guide

At first reference it’s Catherine, Princess of Wales in later references the princess or Catherine, in headlines Kate

Because the British Press has gone out of their way over the years to call her Kate, and it is well known that her name is Catherine, and she prefers Catherine, and her friends do not call her Kate. The press has not been kind to her over the years.

The article is irrelevant. Her name has always been Catherine - it is NOT Kate. The tabloids/headlines call her Kate because they are not respecting her.

Harry’s real name Is Henry.
To everyone else who is responding about the names - Nicknames are usually saved for family only, not the whole world.

Well, okay then.

Kate, is that you?
