Does everyone have their popcorn ready for Harry & Meghan?

Meghan would beg to differ

That’s pretty rude. I am being mocked for setting things straight re her name.

I never mentioned disrespecting anyone, or correcting him… I haven’t even said anything about Rachel :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Which was probably last used on his wedding day. He calls himself Harry. He tells people to call him Harry. Please refer to the cover of his own book.

Yes - He CHOOSES to call himself Harry. Catherine does not choose to call herself Kate. This is where my debate started, but I seem to have multiple users attacking me from all directions!

I choose to be called by my nickname yet my mom calls me by my proper name. Such nerve.

How is this relevant?

I’d be happy if people didn’t refer to them by their maiden names. It seems only since September that Charles’ wife isn’t referred to as Camilla Parker Bowles (yes, I know that’s not her maiden name).

Or refer to Harry’s mother as Princess Diana; she was never titled Princess Diana. But at least it got people to stop calling her Di.

In due course, Kate will be The Queen (assuming they stop with this idiocy of referring to the wife of the King as the Queen Consort). In the meantime, feel free to call her Catherine. But should you meet her, correctly address her as Your Royal Highness at the first instance, and then ma’am.

sigh…you still called her Kate…it is such a mark of disrespect. It was coined by a trashy tabloid along time ago. It is just so disrespectful. Maybe you are not English, but I assure you, it is not nice.

I know that. That’s why William calling him Harold is strange. Maybe just brotherly obnoxiousness.

I noticed in their vows that they used Harry and Meghan, not Henry and his long list of names, and not Rachel Meghan, which is her name.

I actually thought that was unusual to not use their entire names.

To paraphrase the great philosopher Coach Beard, you’re gonna wanna look up “coined.” She called herself “Kate” as a student at uni.

I don’t believe that for a second, and unless you are a close friend of hers, you have no idea. Other people may have called her Kate, and she may have gone along with it, as she was too polite to stop them, but it is not a name she calls herself, particularly since it became particularly hurtful when she became known as ‘Waity Katie’ when it became coined by tabloids. My statement still stands. I really don’t understand why everyone is trying to argue with me, when I am simply stating that calling her Kate, particularly at this time in her life, is incorrect, and disrespectful. If the folks on this thread can respect Harry and Meghan enough to address them by their chosen names, then surely we can be respectful enough to call Catherine by her legal and chosen name.

Actually, I do. And my statement stands. Regardless, in the realm of things that are disrespectful, referring to the Princess of Wales as Kate is really low in the list if things she’s concerned with.

Then we will have to agree to disagree.

I call my sister by her funny nickname but didn’t use it when she was my senior at school nor do i do it in front for her work colleagues, just use her official name. She didn’t ask me, its just basic courtesy.

Lots of people dislike their given names and change them, others just confuse people by keeping their names but simultaneously using alternatives.

This makes me hopeful my secret fantasy that @skieurope is actually European royalty in real life and is just slumming it here on CC for entertainment might really be true.

As a citizen of a nation who fought a war to get out from under the rule of a sovereign who said he ruled as appointed by God, I feel no disrespect if I refer to someone as Kate or whatever. She is not and will never be my “ruler”–to me she’sjust a seemingly nice person who lives in another country.

Nor would I bow to any royal----they ain’t my royals!! OTOH, I would not outwardly insult any of them either–I don’t consider a harmless nickname said NOT to their face an insult.
