<p>Are there really genetic differences in intelligence between individuals? In my experiences it is only culture and environment that causes differences in intelligence. It seems that anyone that works hard enough can get 'A's in college, even at top schools. What do you guys think?</p>

Do you think that a son/daughter of Isaac Newton and Marie Curie (disregard the difference in eras--this is hypothetical) would really be less intelligent than a son/daughter of the two hoboes that live in the woods near your house? Even if they switched places, the son of the scientists would obviously have a gigantic advantage in terms of intellectual capabilities.</p>

<p>Have any of you heard about the book the Bell Curve; I think it’s a farce but it addresses this question completely with blacks and whites. The book pretty much says that whites are intrinsically smarter than blacks (which actually is true but I definitely don’t think is inherent). By the way this book is NOT some back alley neo-nazi book or anything, it was actually a NY times bestseller and well respected by many people; and they really do back up what they say 110% with data and stats.</p>

<p>I think that genetics do have some impact on intelligence. I read somewhere there are a few "smart" genes . . .plus there's evolution, and brain size/structure had to have been passed down genetically. it's more like how people apply things without prior experience.</p>
<p>as a group black people have a lower intelligence than whites, but it is not related to genes at all, it is because as a group they have less IQ stimuli, educational chances and a bunch of other reasons. but it is not due to anything inherent.</p>

<p>It's the same thing with all attributes. Not everyone can be an excellent athlete. Not everyone can be a great computer or video gamer with great coordination. Not everyone can be extremely intelligent. Intelligence, like other traits, is influenced by genes. I think it would be foolish to think that every single person has the same potential to be intelligent as every other human. Different people have different potentials, whether it's intelligence, or strength, or anything else.</p>

I believe (and most other people) that it has noting to do with genetics. but the bell curve book says otherwise. the name of the book is based off the idea that According to their data the average IQ score of a white person is about 105 and the average IQ of a black person is around 85 which creates two separate bell curves. and this not here data compiled in the National Longitudinal Study of Youth (NLSY), a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics tracking thousands of Americans starting in the 1980s. </p>
<p>Whether the IQ difference is because of socioeconomic differences or genetic, it is very clear there is a difference.</p>

<p>Well yes, but we have to understand that is not everyone. But that is why blacks make less than whites (as well as racism). We also have to do something about it, we have to proactive on education for minorities and send more $ to urban areas and less to upper-class areas. This is proof that we need to do something! Minorities are at a disadvantage!</p>
<p>Yeah, but any time you send someone's money to something that doesn't directly benefit them, they'll protest. People aren't willingly going to put the kind of money that's needed into the lower-class areas.</p>
