Does getting an email about Presidential Scholars mean anything?

@presscholar Looking through Reddit and cc, I’m just skeptical as to whether the presidential scholar email is actually a likely letter. I myself received one for the social sciences but it seems like many of the applicants also received it. I may be wrong – just a thought.

@yisevrynametaken presscholar is correct

okay thank you!!

I received this email but was waitlisted at Colby - seems like it could mean admission, but in my case it didn’t, so future applicants beware that receiving this email might be misleading.

For anyone looking on this thread in the future, I got the Presidential Scholars email and then got accepted to Colby.

Really sorry @CoolAsAMoose to hear you got waitlisted. That sucks, sorry the email was misleading.

My daughter received the Presidential Scholars email and was admitted. There’s no mention of the Presidential Scholars program in her admission letter. We are grateful for the acceptance.

Same as @gotham_mom. Daughter received the email in February and was admitted today. There is nothing in her acceptance letter or in the portal about the Presidential Scholars program. Financial aid was, unfortunately, not what we hoped it would be based on the NPC. Still we are grateful for the acceptance and will consider next steps for appealing aid, etc. So, so sorry for those that received the email and were waitlisted or not admitted.

I received the Presidential Scholar email and was waitlisted today. Feeling a little confused but at least Colby wasn’t my top choice. Congrats to everyone who was accepted!

My daughter just received an email letting her know she’s been named a Presidential Scholar.

I just got notified I’ve been selected as a Presidential Scholar!

My daughter received the Presidential Scholar email today. It sounds like a terrific program.

I received the Presidential Scholars email yesterday as well and just spoke with my rep. She mentioned that in the initial read of applications, admissions officers flag kids in their region who they feel would be a good fit for the Presidential Scholars program. So, it seems like that initial email is an indication that your regional rep was impressed by your application and subsequently, that you have a good chance of admission, but it does not represent a finite decision on your application because it is only based on one opinion of your application. Hope this helps for future applicants!

Thank you, this is very helpful. Have you received any accepted students mail from Colby? My daughter’s received emails, but nothing else. Congratulations on your acceptance!

@gotham_mom My daughter hasn’t received any mail yet either but she exchanged emails with her AO this week and he mentioned an accepted students packet. Hopefully that means they’ll receive something soon!

Was she accepted? I didn’t receive any email this year and I’m way too nervous now

Presidential scholar emails went out earlier this week to some students. It seems that getting an email is a positive sign that they appreciate your candidacy, but it is not necessarily a guarantee given their wholistic admissions process. Not getting an email doesn’t mean you won’t be accepted. Most students will be accepted without the Presidential Scholars invite.
