Applied RD and got this email about 10 days ago(forgot to post.)
I am delighted to inform you that you have been nominated for Colby’s Presidential Scholars Program. This program offers several benefits, including the opportunity to conduct research alongside world-class scholars and teachers, funding to design individual projects, and the chance to participate in activities offered exclusively to Scholars.
In their first year, Presidential Scholars are offered paid Colby Academic Research Assistant (CARA) positions, which pair them with a professor on a research project of mutual interest. After the first year, Scholars have exclusive access to Opportunity Grants of up to $3,000 for independent research, internships, or humanitarian projects. These opportunities span the curriculum, provide a catalyst for making a significant impact in the world, and help prepare you for life after Colby.
To be considered for this program, we ask that you review the tentative list of research opportunities for the Class of 2021 and indicate your project interest by February 15. Should you have any questions, you may contact Senior Assistant Director of Admissions Marnie Terhune at marnie.terhune@colby.edu, or Professor and Faculty Coordinator of the Presidential Scholars Program Martha Arterberry at martha.arterberry@colby.edu.
Please note the Presidential Scholar nomination process is entirely separate from Colby’s holistic admissions application review. In the coming months your application will be closely reviewed by our admissions committee, and you will receive official notification of our decision by April 1.
Also just got my early acceptance. So for those who got an email about being presidential scholar, you’re in! Kind of funny cuz I submitted my application 2 days late.
For those in the future curious about what it means about your admissions chances to other schools (I frantically tried to find out where else presidential scholars got in when I got the notification in February)- I was waitlisted/rejected at all the ivies I applied to and Williams/Amherst, accepted at Middlebury (probably attending next year), Colgate, and Wesleyan. A presidential scholar nomination should not be taken as an indication you will get in to Harvard.
my son is a sophomore at Colby and as a Presidential Scholar he receives $2000 per year, has a paid research position and has grant opportunities for internships etc. that other students don’t have.Presidential Scholars are highly respected at Colby. As a CS and Math major and a member of the football team he is always busy, but he loves it there.FYI,my daughter attends Cornell but he was denied at Cornell Engineering and waitlisted at Harvard. At this level it’s a crapshoot.
DD was named Presidential Scholar which was a nice but the financial pkg was out of line with other schools; alas she will not be attending.
Hope they give the aware to another deserving student.
