Will universities care if transfer applicants went to university one semester and community college the other?
I definitely want to transfer from Saint Louis University to a different university for next year, but I'm extremely unhappy where I am now and am thinking about going to community college for my second semester of freshman year. However, I'm afraid the universities I want to apply to (Depaul, University of Illinois at Urbana and at Chicago, and Northwestern) might look down upon my application if they see I went to a university first semester and a community college my second semester. Do universities care about where the transfer student went before their institution? I'm just really worried about whether or not they'll take a semester at community college into account in my application or not. My parents think they will just because I'm at a university now, but I'm really not sure about the whole situation. Any advice? It would be greatly appreciated!!!

I don’t think it matters. Just explain the situation. Personally, I’d think the student that was miserable at his university and went to community college to save money, get good grades, and then transfer to a good school is smarter than the kid who hated his current university but decided to pay $40,000 per year to be miserable academically and socially.

I agree with smorg. Just get the good grades and everything will turn out for you. You get the same general classes at the community college for a lot cheaper so it wouldn’t matter. JUST MAKE SURE that if you try transferring back, that you would meat the transfer requirements.
