Hello...I recieved a merit scholarship and ALSO a financial aid scholarship. Is this okay, or by me getting one does one cancel the other out? Basically, can I recieve both the need-based scholarship in my financial aid package AND merit ones?

You CAN have it all! Enjoy!

My d received trustee scholarship for 20K and Presidential Scholarship for 15K and emailed the fin aid office and was told she could not use both, just the higher one.

Does anyone have any more infor on this. She had her heart set on this and we thought if she received both than she could afford to attend.

We figured one was a merit and the other a need based so they would be combinable. Anyone else in this situation or have experience with this. I wish GW would have made this clear in her acceptance package.

From my experience, if your need-based grant is higher than your merit scholarship, you won’t get the merit scholarship. That’s weird though that they would offer you both- if your decision of whether or not to attend GW is riding on this, I’d call the financial aid office and see what they can do.

I am totally in this situation and YES I wish they would have made it clear too. I was so excited, but now it’s kind of a damper. Nonetheless, I still recieved that Trustee, but no BOTH cannot be used and they didn’t even tell us.

Wait, so if I got the Board of Trustees Scholarship and The University Alumni Award I can only use one? Can someone clarify for me?

no you can use both of those but you cannot use the presidential academic scholarship if you got that.
