Does Harvard give everyone an interview?

I had my Harvard interview yesterday and I'm wondering what percentage of applicants get an interview if not all do?

I believe they try to interview all applicants who live within a reasonable distance to an alumnus interviewer.

So even if you have absolutely horrid grades, they’ll still interview you if you’re close to an alumnus?

As long as there is an interviewer available, you’ll be offered one. It’s not an indication of your strength as an applicant

I am on the west coast, I guess they are not going to fly me out for an interview …

to theleakers… I’m on the west coast too. I had my Harvard interview just last weekend. They don’t need to fly you out; there are plenty of alumni to interview applicants who live in California (or likely wherever it is you live, unless it’s kind of remote).

The vast majority of people don’t interview on campus. They interview with local alumni who volunteer to do interviews for Harvard

Does Harvard even offer interviews?

yes. they offer them to everyone they can. there are harvard alumni all over the U.S. who volunteer to interview local applicants. they write a report of the interview and send it to harvard, where it becomes another part of the admissions process.

so in short… YES. they definitely offer interviews… if not, this post would make no sense.

Yeah Harvard does

“An interview in Cambridge is not a required part of the application process, but a high school senior who will be in the area may arrange an office interview from June through November. Because of heavy demand and a limited staff of interviewers, we are unable to guarantee an interview.”

I know some other Ivies, like Penn, don’t offer them though.

From Penn’s site
“Individual on-campus interviews are not available as requests vastly exceed our ability to meet this need”

^I think she meant to say on-campus interviews

@wadawada, I guess I am stuck with the California schools …

Why do you say that? Just because of the availability of interviews? They’re optional…

Haha no worries… not getting an interview has nothing to do with your strength as an applicant. I’m almost positive I’m not getting accepted, anywho… I’m just another smart kid.
