So i have one of these LD's i think its ADHD and i believe it impacted my performance in 9th and the first half of 10th grade(6 Cs, 3 Ds). I brought my grades up to a 3.1(with a 3.8 junior year) and im becoming ever so worried about colleges now. I was planning to explain this in one of my essays but I don't see the point if its going to make admission officials give me another look. Does it help or hurt you to state a learning disability?

If you have a valid reason for struggling in school, it would help you to state it. Mentioning a learning disability won’t hurt you. I would put it in the additional info section though. don’t waste your essay explaining your grades. the essay is meant to reflect you as a person, a side that’s not shown by the transcript. make sure you get diagnosed first though. good luck!

Depending on your delivery, it could potentially increase your admissions chances. Try to present an image of how the disability reflects on your qualities of character (i.e. demonstrative of endurance, ambition, and courage).

It helps me. Doing something great despite the disability or slipping up due to the disability + another external situation (like a family member is sick or something) = great story and improved chances.

perhaps not if it poses a liability?
