<p>People are emphasizing the need for formal emails, but I've already joined college mailing lists/put down the informal address on PSAT/college board account with the informal email so I'm wondering what I should do. Thanks!</p>

<p>People say you need to have a formal email address so that people don’t try to use “hotttttie_xoxo”. I can’t imagine yours would ever be a problem.</p>

<p>If you have a very common name along the line of John Smith, you may well need to include something logical, and appropriately formal, in order to create a unique email address. Using part of your birth date makes sense.</p>
<p>Then again if you have an uncommon name, working through various combinations (john.smith, johnsmith, smith.john, etc.) probably will mean that you don’t need any numbers.</p>
