I'm a first generation immigrant from Germany, we moved to the United States when I was about 10 years old and I took ESL in school for some years. I was just wondering if that works as a positive in the eyes of college admissions (particularly for the ivy leagues) or if it really isn't a factor. Thanks!

I think it won’t really help you unless you can show them what kind of difficulties you’ve overcome over the years in the United States…

I came from Hong Kong 4 years ago, and I think the only “advantages” are that I can base my essay on that and I BELIEVE that most college will take my 32 ACT more seriously after they learn about my background.

Immigrants in the US are a dime a dozen!

Not a factor, IMHO

It’s not very unique whatsoever.

Not gonna help you at all unless you feel that living in Germany gives your life a unique dimension that other applicants may not have. Think it over then decide whether you want to write about this in your apps.

Are you currently a US citizen, or do you have a green card? If neither of these hold true, you will be considered an international applicant, which makes admissions into many US colleges more difficult.
