Also, do students get paid when they work/assist on different projects related to different companies like Google etc?

Yes - there are a few merit awards, including National Merit. Students do not get paid (I believe) for their course-based work, but do often land paid summer internships.

Look on the HMC Website and go to the financial aid section. There is a whole page on it if you bother to look.

HMC still offers the Harvey S. Mudd scholarship, which is 40k distributed throughout 4 years. If you read the page, I’m sure you will see it. We also have work-study on campus, some jobs like Homework Hotline (grade school students call in and ask for help) are strictly work study. There are other jobs like Academic Excellence, Phonathon, Writing Center etc, and of course our Dean of Students office.

For engineering and CS students, there is clinic, which is a year-long company sponsored project for groups of 4. This is not paid, unfortunately, but I imagine it’s a good experience (I haven’t taken clinic yet). Throughout the school year, students can take research for credits or for money.

There are also internships as nemom mentioned. Research doesn’t pay as well as internships in industry, as you can imagine. CS majors tend to get the higher paying jobs (not sure about engineering majors), but often that’s experience related and differs from one company to another.

When I think of Harvey Mudd, I think of Engineering. I know their CS program is strong as well and can anyone tell me their thoughts on the Chemistry major at Harvey Mudd? Does it have the stellar reputation that Engineering does? Are there many internship opportunities? Thank you.

Harvey Mudd’s chemistry program is very strong. The chemistry department sends students to graduate school at the highest rate of any school in the country. A recent publication by the chemistry department shows recent graduates going to grad school at Harvard, Yale, UC Berkeley, U. Washington and other excellent graduate programs.

All of the students are involved in research in their senior year, at a minimum. Most probably get involved with summer research, also. There’s more information on the chemistry department website.

The chem department is small, but very good.
