IIT appears to do a great job reaching out students and overall offer very generous scholarships to many applicants. Staff and faculty also appear to be friendly and responsive in the application processing stage. Does IIT also take good care of students even after they are enrolled, such as individual care, tutoring, interships, job-searching etc.? Thanks for any input! Students who have experience with both IIT and other larger campuses such as UIUC or UW-Madison or IUB are particularly welcome.

As an IIT student (and someone who looked into both UIUC and UW-Madison), they do pretty well with giving opportunities to their students that you might not come across at a larger university. Once on campus, you can create an account which tells you some of the job openings both on campus and in the area. Also, there is a career fair every semester that gives students a great opportunity to meet with employers and just find out more about the job market. The thing is, IIT provides all of the services you mentioned, but the student just has the initiative to take advantage of them. It is very easy to go and talk to professors (at least most of them) and they are typically more than happy to help with any problems, whether specifically homework/class related or more general career related. There is a tutoring center called the ARC that is open most of the day and there are tutors there from every subject that students can talk to and get help. I think it is easiest to make an appointment, but I believe that they also let people walk in and see if a tutor is available. Internships are bountiful, whether it is through the university or through a specific professor, students will be able to find an internship somewhere. Also, if a student is interested in graduate school, research is a big deal in the undergraduate education. IIT professors are usually very welcoming of undergraduates in their research especially if they already have work study funding. I started research with faculty members my first semester here. I can’t really speak for UIUC and UW-Madison personally, but through the people I know who go there it is not nearly as easy to find positions. The obvious reason for this is because there are just so many students fighting for what is only a few positions. That would be my opinion of the job/research possibilities at really any large school.

In general, IIT provides students with all the activities/opportunities they need to succeed, but ultimately it is up to the student to pursue them.
