I am a faculty member in the CS dept and also director of UG Advising, and I thought I would just post a few comments about the academics and advising at IIT.

1) IIT is a challenging school, and we attract some of the top high school students in the country. Students come to work hard at IIT, and a general expectation is to spend twice as much time out of class working on academics as you do in class.

2) Don't let that scare you, we are here to assist. We have many programs in place to both identify potential problems and help a student adjust to IIT.

3) freshmen year you will take an intro to professions course to learn about your major, faculty, and careers. So right away you can get a sense if your chosen major is correct. But do not worry if it wasn't the correct choice. Changing majors within the first year or so is easy for mist changes.

4) The IPRO program (see separate thread) is kind of the signature program at IIT, what our students talk about at interviews, and what companies like to hear about.

Please post any questions, I will check back periodically.
