Does It Help Being Jewish?

Refer to the title and please answer!

Thanks folks.

It actually probably hurts, because they are looking to diversify.

yeah, i agree.

I wouldn't take that too much to heart. If you have the stats and profile to get in I don't think Brandeis would discriminate against Jewish students.

No one can predict adcoms. Just do your best and hope for the best. Be sure to visit. Brandeis is one of those schools that want you to show them the love.

Obviously, there's no shortage of Jewish kids at Brandeis. Being "diverse" could help if you have something else going for you as well, but being Jewish doesn't hurt and there are ways to be diverse and Jewish at the same time.

They have no way to tell whether you're Jewish (though I'm sure certain surnames will give it away). As far as admissions goes, being Jewish = being Caucasian. You won't get any direct benefits (i.e. Affirmative Action) but it won't impact you negatively.

it could still add religious diversity, though. race isnt the only "divesity" thing that a college cares about. it depends on the school. but for brandeis, i dont think it would help much. but it wouldnt hurt.

You don't even put your religion onto the application and even if you do have an interview, they're obviously not going to flat out ask you, "Are you Jewish?"

The only way I could see it ever helping you is if you put it in your essay, but even so, Brandeis is a secular school. They don't have preferential treatments for students of certain religions, including Jews.
