<p>Please don’t worry about this. Involvement in music is much appreciated by colleges as is authentic interest and hard work.</p>
<p>There is a wonderful music major forum here on CC if you want to ask there.</p>
<p>Most of all, just let your kid evolve naturally and he will end up at the right school for him.</p>
<p>I’ve worried about the same thing, bandmom. DS is a very accomplished pianist, and he plays the trumpet in the symphonic band, jazz band, and during football season the pep band. He had his first “gig” playing in a musical at a community theater last month. Without the pit band, he spends at least 25 hours/week on music. I’m relieved to hear that admissions officers recognize that music, theatre, etc., take much more time that clubs. DS also plays golf, but not well enough to make the school team (he tried this year). With the time he spends on homework, he is quite busy. </p>
