Would it look bad if I were to retake the Sat 6 times to colleges?
Why would you want to? How much preparation did you do prior to the first 5 times that you took the SAT? What scores do you already have?
From what I have heard, students tend to top out after about 3 sittings. You are not likely to improve much after that.
In the first place, most colleges allow score choice, so for the vast majority, they will not see 6 tries.
Secondly, but most importantly, I am in agreement with @DadTwoGirls . Excluding any tests taken in MS for talent search programs, if one has prepped adequately for the first three sittings, it unlikely that there would be improvement on the 4th, 5th, or 6th. The time would be better spent on improving other aspects of the application.
Take the test as few times as possible. Prep well so that you don’t have to take it six times. That’s a colossal waste of time and money.
I agree with 3 times max.
There is no max, but if you prepared adequately you shouldn’t need to take it this many times. Also, what is the reason for thinking the 5th time will be better than the 6th? Overall, though, better to get the score you need and take the test too many times, than get too low of a score.
What universities are you aiming for?
If tippy top private, they generally require all scores to be sent, so it’d be detrimental.
If going after a public university scholarship, then you can since many universities will simply take whatever you submit or superscore.
