Does it make sense to attend college in Europe?

How does it effect marketability? I understand that some European countries offer free college tuition but the cost of living is often very high. If you have studied abroad I would appreciate some suggestions about what to expect in the area of course work and grading systems (pros and cons). It probably isn’t what Americans are used to.

What do you want to study?

Where do you want to start your life after college?

Those are questions for you to think about.

Which country ? Are you proficient or fluent in the language ?

University of Buenos Aires, Argentina may still be tuition free for all. Something to consider if proficient in Spanish.

At most European universities you will only study your major - no gen eds, no exploration, often no chance to change course. So you really need to be sure what you want to study.

How it affects you in the job market depends on lots of factors - subject, the reputation of the specific college, how well you did, what internships you got, perhaps in the vacations at home, etc.

Undergraduate programs are often offered in the local language only and not in English. Expect entry level lectures together with hundreds of students, help sessions run by TA’s and you get to talk to the faculty in person the first time at the final exam. Students are expected to be self driven, highly motivated without requiring any hand holding. Students that can’t keep up are merciless weeded out. What you get out of this kind of sink or swim environment is entirely up to you. It is possible to do very well, have fun, a unique experience and receive a degree for low cost. Following up with a US graduate degree is probably the best way to get back into th US job market afterwards.
