Does it matter what major you choose for physical therapy?

I wanna go to UCSB, but all they have is exercise and health science. Would this be a good undergrad major? Or would it be better to major in kinesiology at SDSU or UCDavis?

It doesn’t matter what you major in as long as you have completed all requirements for the physical therapy schools that you will be applying to. Any of the majors you listed would be fine, as would be biology, psychology, chemistry, etc., as long as you complete the prerequisites. It would also help to either do some volunteer work in the field, or work as a PT aide somewhere.

No major is preferred for PT.

You can major in whatever you want at UCSB and just complete the PT pre-reqs, which often are…

Year of Bio (2 semesters or 3 quarters)
Year of Gen Chem
Year of Anatomy and Physiology
Year of Physics
Year of English
A few courses in Psych
A few math courses

So, if you want to major in Bio (since 2 years of bio courses are required for pre-PT) and take the rest, you won’t have to take a bunch of extra courses.

You need to look at various PT grad school admissions to see what pre-reqs are req’d.
