so, im about 75% sure i want to go into PT after undergrad, but i am not entirely sure. (i am in hs now). all the schools i am applying to have exercise science or kinesiology majors available. however i am looking to apply to one more school, and schools with those majors are hard to find! so the question is...would majoring in a different major than ESS/kinesiology be a bad idea? (bio? neuroscience?)

SEMO's website said often students will major in biology, physics, or maybe chemistry. I'm debating whether to do PT or just stick with the athletic training. I'm staying with the athletic training and I think that one would make a good field before PT as well. In fact, a lot of the stuff you'll learn in athletic training will benefit for PT. I'd say PT's are more educated than ATC's generally speaking, but probably the biggest difference is that PT's typically deal with the general public whereas athletic trainers deal with the physically active.

Professor of PT here. I believe it is unanimous among PT programs that we are interested in the quality of your academic performance in your prerequisite courses and then in your other academic courses. Your undergrad major should be your choice -- so long as you fulfill the prerequisites. Over the years, I have had students enter PT with undergrad degrees in visual arts, English, business, Spanish, although most have come with exercise science, biology or psychology majors. Select a major that you will enjoy. In order to be an effective PT and to interact with the broad range of patients who seek us out you will need to draw upon anything and everything.
