Does it matter where you get your undergraduate degree from?

Im a senior and want to be a biomedical engineer specializing in hospitak devices abd prosthetics. Im going to get my undergrad degree in Mechanical engineer. I was just wondering if it mattered where i went for a BS in Mechanical Engineer. I wanna go to either Temple University or PSU. The thing is I like Temple better. Temple is more diverse, smaller and affordable than PSU. My ultimate goal after getting a BS is trying to find a job that can help me with a masters in Biomedical Engineering program. If i were to graduate from Temple with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, would I still be able to find a job, preferably in a company that cab help with my masters?

No one can predict that specifically what kind of job you might find. But most engineering firms don’t care as long as your college engineering degree is ABET accredited.

People tend to do better in an atmosphere they feel comfortable in. Agree, that nobody can predict the future but if Temple is ABET accredited and has the major/coursework you want and if you prefer the school’s size, price, urban location etc. then you should be fine there.

Are you considering Pitt? I believe they’re really strong in that area

Not really, but it depends. In your case not really, since biomedical engineering is a relatively new academic discipline and most employers/institutions looking to hire BME expertise want someone with a graduate degree. Of course, a BS in BME from Johns Hopkins University carries a lot of weight, depending on what you want to do with it.

I’ll second considering Pitt if you haven’t. Of our major PA schools, they’re the one with the best “all things medical” reputation. And many who consider Pitt also consider Case Western. Pending your stats, etc, you could find them competitive price-wise.

Otherwise… ask folks (in Engineering) at Temple to see where recent grads have gone and what they are doing now. If others are doing what you’d like to do, you’re fine.

I have, its on my list too.
My list is :
Drexel University
Temple University
Rutgers University
Penn State
University of Pittsburgh

Are you instate for any of those publics?

No, I’m out of State, I moved out of PA 4 years ago.

Do you qualify for the full tuition scholarship at Temple?

I dont think so.

Can you afford them as an OOS student?

yes, but Temple would be more affordable than PSU. But both are pretty affordable.
