Does it matter where you volunteer?

Ok so will colleges look differently if you volunteered at the library versus the hospital?

I think the idea is that you don’t volunteer for the sole purpose of volunteering, but instead because you enjoy what you are doing. So if you are interested in medicine, you would volunteer at a hospital; books/literature, a library; animals, a zoo/vet clinic, etc. Personally, I am interested in public health but live too far from a hospital/public health type office/capital, etc. so I volunteer at a convalescent hospital. Mostly because I enjoy it and a tiny bit because it will pad my app.

So what if you’re volunteering to help people? For example, I’m going to start work at a local Red Cross charity shop, which doesn’t fit into any of my interests.

I mean if you enjoy it and it’s for a good cause then why not?
