Does it means I will be admitted by UCSC?

“I am happy to hear of your interest in the Social Sciences Division at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Should you be admitted to the university, I want to make sure you have the information you need to make an informed choice about the social sciences at UC Santa Cruz”
I just receive the email and am confused with it…
It is possible for me to be admitted by it?

What are your stats?

I got the same email. It’s not an admission email. Gmail even put among promotion emails.

I didn’t apply to UCSC but UCLA send those same types of emails, asking if you want to visit the school. Idk why they gotta play with our feelings like that lol.

I got one too. Like the other have said, this is most likely a promotional email.

There was a recent article that said UCSC is basically accepting approx 100% of all transfer applicants assuming they have req and units completed. They’re having a huge problem with retention due to people thinking it’s a stoner school.

@Ohm888 wow no way that’s crazy… One of my profs told me that something (a plan or act or whatever idk exactly) passed where the UCs have to accept a lot more CCC students than before because there was public outcry from the fact that despite California residents’ tax $ going to these schools, the UCs were trying to accept more OOS/international students to make more $. Idk how valid her statements were, but that is just what she told me.
Anyhow, that thing with UCSC is pretty insane. I’m not sure how exactly accepting 100% of transfer applicants who finish prereqs is going to help the “stoner rep” but maybe I’m missing something?

The reference to stoner school was people weren’t choosing it.

I got that email to from the school of engineering. I’m not sure of my official UC gpa right now. It was 3.57 when I applied but it went down so I think it’s like a 3.49 now.
And I’ve been stalking the freshmen applicant thread and apparently not everyone got this email They also started doing early acceptances for freshmen today.

@lovelei As Ohm888 stated, you might’ve been a borderline candidate and they need those winter grades to make a decision. Yes you are right, not everyone got that email. Although idk what high school students getting early acceptances has do to with anything, as they don’t do early acceptances for us.
You might’ve been just a random audit tho. Also, if you were taking some important classes for the winter, like a major prereq or an English class, they might want to see those grades to make a more informed decision on your admission. Your gpa is pretty good tho for UCSC I’m sure you’re not gonna have issues getting into there.

@ericbadmon I’m sure she meant more in-state Californians. UC is on a mission to accept 1 CCC transfer for every 2 Californian freshman. Yes it is true UC likes and is accepting more OOS/international than ever before because the funding from California is not enough for UC so they need to resort to private school level funding, and a higher rise in demand for UC. This most likely has to do with budget cuts during the recession in 2008 and UC suffered budget cuts from the governer. From 1999-2008 fall enrollment into UC maintained an 89% Californian student enrollment, and has been declining while OOS/internationals has been on the rise.

The ratio has always been 2/3 freshman-1/3 transfers based on the 1960 CA Master Plan for Higher Education. They are acting like it’s new, but it isn’t. Basically every year the UC campuses talk about essentially meeting those targets.
