I took honors English pretty much through all of high school and when I picked my classes for next year I put down regular English because I didn't want AP English. But the teacher who teaches AP English told our class that it looks bad when colleges look at you if you take honors throughout all of high school and then stop when it gets to senior year. There is no honors English 4 at my school. It's either regular English 4 or AP English.

I really don't want to take it, mainly because I'm taking AP Govt now. But if I don't take it, will it look bad?

It might be slightly detrimental, but it will, in no way, make or break you.

AP Govt. and AP English (Language I'm guessing??) isn't too bad of a schedule IMO, why not take both unless they're just unholy hell at your school?

I'm in the same situation as you, Little_Duck. I opted out of AP English (lit) senior year and I've been in honors English throughout high school. I've been told that if you're applying as a science/math major, it will have very negligible impact.

AP Gov isn't really a hard class at all. Do you know what kind of college you're shooting for or what you will major in?

I'm apprehensive about taking both of them because I'm not that smart of a kid and I'm lazy so I don't want to end up getting C's in both or something, and as a senior I'll probably start to slack off.

I'm probably going to apply to the UC's and maybe 1 out of state one but that's about it.

I REALLY suggest taking it but that's my personal opinion, and I am a math/social studies person, personally I hate English. However, if you feel you can't handle it then go for regular. Like I said before though, US Gov is SUPER easy. Is there anyways you can take like a Humanities course instead of regular English?

if you are applying to Cal and UCLA it will matter - a LOT. Other UCs not so much.

i'll apply to UCI, UCR probably.
