Does Lehigh lack prestige and a notable name?

I've been looking into Lehigh in Bethlehem, PA lately and it seems like I'd really like it. I know it's academically up there with NYU and Boston College but also a pretty damn good party school with a good fraternity/sorority scene and good, traditional campus life.
So even though Lehigh is nationally recognized as the 35th best university in America, does the fact that it's not too popular (or atleast not a household name) deduct from its value as a school?
Or am I completely wrong and Lehigh leads to good job opportunities and is fairly popular and recognized in the working world?
Anything about Lehigh would be welcome.
I've stated my stats in a couple threads so since these are general questions, let's just assume I can get in and afford it.

I live really close to LU know many people that are very closely connected, so maybe my view is a little skewed, but I think Lehigh is a really good school. I’m personally not considering it because I can literally see my house from parts of the campus with a clear view of Bethlehem and it’s not known for what I want to study.

Lehigh is an especially good school for business and engineering. Lehigh has always been an engineering school (that was the purpose of its founding, to make engineers for Bethlehem Steel) but they’ve been putting tons of money into their B-school with great results. Their accounting program was ranked #1 a couple years back (don’t know if they still hold that) and a lot of Lehigh grads go on to jobs in finance or on Wall St.

You should know, and it seems like you do, that Lehigh is a HUGE party school. I mean there are a lot of kids there that work really hard, but there’s a perception in the community (which is to a small extent true) that LU is full of rich kids from Jersey and Connecticut.

To answer your questions though, Lehigh would be a fine school. Just because the kids at your lunch table don’t know about it doesn’t mean employers or grad schools won’t. You would be OK after graduation (although I imagine you can find a better deal. LU is really pricey).

If you have any more questions you can PM me. I’m very familiar with Lehigh and what it offers (and if I don’t know I know someone that does).

Regionally speaking, it should hold ground.

Yes. Next Question.

I think it is seen as a solid choice, somewhere in the range of a Villanova, GWU, Franklin and Marshall, etc. A little below Colgate and Hamilton, but above American. I think it is indeed a good school.

Well if got my roommate into a fully-funded PhD chemistry program at Columbia and got me into a fully-funded engineering program at MIT…so yeah, I think the brand recognition is “good enough”. The real question is whether or not you will be.

“Does Lehigh lack prestige and a notable name?”

Should not matter, your college selection should not solely be based on the schools ‘prestige’ and having a ‘notable name’.

But with that being said, Lehigh is a ‘respected school’ in terms of prestige, etc.
