I was just going through some universities I could potentially add to my list, and Lehigh seems like a great place. I never hear anything about it though! What's with that?

At least in the Northeast, people definitely know about Lehigh. It is a fine school. But it is a mid-sized school that gets a lot of its students from the Northeast and it doesn’t have big time athletics (although they are D1, they have a great rivalry with Lafayette College, and they made the NCAA tournament the last couple of years even beating Duke in 2012) so Lehigh may not be as well known nationally. Anyone who knows a lot about colleges should know about Lehigh.

Lehigh University is great school, I do not like some things about it that others may not care about or may even enjoy.
unbalanced male/female ratio.
heavy Greek presence
to much drinking/partying

if all that changed it would be a top notch place to attend (IMO)

Lehigh is a very very good engineering school. Its in Bethlehem Pa and has fed the steel industry with engineers for decades. Its highly respected.

As I stated in another thread the Patriot League is full of wonderful schools: Colgate, Bucknell, Lehigh, Lafayette, Fordham, Georgetown, Holy Cross in football, and adds Army and American in basketball (Fordham in the A10 and Georgetown in the BigEast).

Each school in a special setting, and offers unique vibe and qualities.

Fordham offers a beautiful campus in the Bronx, an urban location with amazing internships, a Jesuit education (Like Holy Cross and Georgetown), and no Greek system.

Lehigh is very much a Greek system school…so it depends on whether you want a frat/sorority or not.

Lehigh is much more than a good engineering school – it is widely respected for its business programs as well as its liberal arts programs. I researched the school and visited it with my D a couple of years ago and although it wasn’t the right fit for her (she chose to attend a LAC which happens to also be in the Patriot League) we were impressed with the school. Per USNWR, 38% of men are in frats and 44% of women are in sororities although it did appear that Greek life is an important component of the social scene on campus. Just so you know, the campus is built on a hill so be ready to hike!

A lot of schools get outsized publicity (sometimes much more than their reputation warrants), whereas other really good schools don’t get as much. I would suspect in Lehigh’s case that it’s simply overshadowed by the large number of really good, elite universities in the Northeast. But Lehigh is great - they are in a pretty area, not too far from either Philadelphia or New York, has great academics and is reputed to be great socially, too.

Good school in solid Patriot League with highly ranked LAC’s Colgate and Holy Cross.

It is extremely popular among students from N. Jersey and New York.

As noted above, it is mainly known for engineering and business.

Built on a hill is an understatement. It’s more like the side of a mountain. Beautiful place, but be prepared for regular exercise.
