SAT subject tests... does Lehigh need them?

They don’t require them but they’re “recommended”

Ok thank you

I sent in two SAT II’s, a 690 Bio and 710 Math 1. I’m not sure how much they impacted my application, if at all

I think they help if you do well… but if you don’t (as in my case) its better not to send. Idk… just a thought.

Yeah, probably, but the good thing about them is you can send which ones you want. I got a 580 in Physics but didn’t send it in

I didnt take them and got in so I would say no, they arent necessary

Kbinko92, what were your stats for gpa, sat and what activities did you do to get accepted to Lehigh?

If you do well enough on some SAT IIs, you will have the option to test out of some intro courses.

I know that Chemistry 030 is one of the courses that that’s available for, I missed the test-out point by 20.

I think they help if you score well. Particularly if you are hoping for merit.

Copaman: what was the test out score for the Chem SAT II?

750 or Higher.

Here’s the deal with that:

If you score 750 or higher, you are given 4 credit hours for Chem 030, and have the option to take an exam to earn 4 more credit hours for Chem 031 (the associated lab, if I remember correctly) and thus place out of it.

Do a Ctrl+750 to find the section that describes it.

Thank you, Copaman. That’s good news for DS. I will check out the link.

Between AP classes and the SATIIs, my S is classified as a Sophomore, and this is his first semester @ Lehigh.

Word of caution here - be very careful about taking a waiver for courses in your major. Make sure to speak with your guidance counselor as they will know if certain classes really should be taken at Lehigh with the Lehigh slant before moving on in your major. You can have difficulty down the road in some cases.

mumof2boyz: Good advice. For now, since DS only a junior, knowing this is yet another motivating factor for this year’s SATIIs (last ones to take). Need to give him confidence as he just told me he is currently facing his first challenge in HS (AP Physics).
