I am going to college in the fall and have decided to get a Lenovo Thinkpad. Since the new intel processors have come out I feel there won't be any significant computer updates for awhile and plus I'm just an average user who won't need anything super fancy or new.

If Lenovo doesn't offer any deal for students in the summertime, I'm tempted to get my laptop now.

So basically does anyone know if Lenovo does offer student discounts?

They usually offer discounts only to students at a select few universities. However, what’s more important is that the student discounts aren’t usually the best deals. Take a look at their loosely-enforced employees / contractors and friends discounts. Since they didn’t exactly define “friend,” you can just find the code online and consider the person who posted it to be a “friend.” This will get you up to a 40% discount.

In any case, uhm, there’s always new computer upgrades available. The new Intel processors have just come out, but they’ll be outdated by Fall. The world moves very fast, and processors become outdated faster than what some foods expire.

If you see an excellent deal, get it now. By the time it ships, something new most likely already has been announced.

I kinda have to disagree with you there; as far as I know nothing is on the way to replace the mobile i3/i5 CPUs. The only big change I can think of are the 32nm CPUs, but they’re only going to be for desktops for the time being.

There are always like 30% coupons during the “back to school” sale which is around August/Sept. Wait till then. Maybe find another retailer who might offer deals.

I think the i3,i5, and i7 won’t be outdated for another 2 years. Sure, their clock speeds will go up and their prices will go down but the “chip” will remain the same for a while. Core 2 Duos lasted like 2-3 years.
