i'm doing premed and i'm also mcb. i took calc bc in high school and got a 5. i took math1a though because i wanted to take it easy my first semester. so med schools want 1 year of calculus, so does math1a + 53 = 1 year of calc? or do i have to take math1b? thanks for any help

just so you know 16ab is enough too. Anyways don't do BC unless you actually like MCB. All bio majors, and all majors in general, are viewed equally by health schools. Some idiots a while back started claiming that MCB is best for premed, despite the fact that you never deal with a whole animal/human in mcb.

^thats not true...MCB majors need 1a and 1b

and yes, i believe 1a + 53 constitutes a year of calculus

i was saying 16 is enough for med schools

what if you already have 1 year of calculus through AP credits or community college credits, do you still have to do 1 year of calculus at Cal?

No, you don't have to. You can skip out of those courses.

However, for medical school admissions, it is recommended that you retake these courses to "prove" your proficiency in the subject matter.

This essentially makes it a requirement.

It is a requirement. If you want to go to med school, you have to take one year of calculus regardless.

you could get in without a year of calc, but it would be easier to get in if you do take a year of calc and do well.
