I've been looking into McGill and carrying this assumption that, although it is big with many students, it doesn't feel like a big US state school. I realize it's in Motreal, Canada and not the US, but I still wonder.

Is it hard to meet and get to know proffesors? Is it really like a US state school without the frats and football teams?
Thanks.

Most big state schools are in small college towns where your whole life revolves around the campus. A better analogy would be to compare McGill to large private schools like Boston University, University of Southern California or the University of Pennsylvania. They too are urban schools and students will be involved with activities in the city in addition to those on campus.

Getting to know your professors at any large school is mostly up to you. If the only time you visit them during office hours is to complain about a grade, you will not have much of a relationship. If you are looking for close faculty/student relationships, you may want to consider a liberal arts college.
