My school has already gotten 4 kids into Yale this year, all of them b/c of sports. I applied EA. In all reality, are my chances extremely minimal?

FOUR??? jesus, what school do you go to ?? I'd have said after the first two, tops, that the next person's chances were near zero no matter WHAT kind of a candidate (s)he was, but with your school I don't know how to predict!

It's unfortunate, isn't it. I mean, honestly, it's great for them, and I'm happy for them. But, like that 4 years of work that will go unnoticed to Yale.

no, i'm actually saying i don't know; i've got no idea! if yale can accept FOUR of you guys, maybe they'll take a fifth!

haha I appreciate the attempt at uplifting my hopes, but i fear the worst.

Well, statistically you should be fearful to begin with... If you're passionate about Yale, apply anyway.

I have a story to tell you, wellnow:

Once upon a time, there was a class of 2006 at ItsAllJibberish's public high school. And in that class of 2006, EIGHT - I repeat - EIGHT students were accepted to Harvard. And this showed that wellnow still has a shot at getting into Yale, despite his/her 4 athletic friends already getting in. The End!

Wasn't that a good story? :)

And in a far-away kingdom called Fringey's School, 17 kids got into Yale! It was an admittedly crazy competitive kingdom, but there is hope nonetheless. Three little athletes got taken away to the magical Yale; the rest were smarties :-) like you!

The end? I think not...

fringey!
are you serious?
that's amazing!
good luck to you though...how many are applying this year?

35 early I believe... who knows how many regs. But most who are interested apply early...

Thanks, you too :-)

FRINGEY WHAT

WHATTTTTTTTTTTTT

INSERT PROFANITY HERE

that is patently ridiculous. and awesome, but ridiculous. i guess living in the midwest is different. i believe the competition is less severe here, but they also accept fewer people. three people got accepted to Yale last year and two of them went. and that was an amazing year.

Is your school some sort of feeder school with crazy connections?

Yeeeah, I'm definitely thinking fringey's school's a feeder.

Yale has always accepted 3 kids from my school, or at least, they have for the past 6 years. Unfortunately, there are four Siemens finalists at my school, three of which are applying to Yale. Wheeee.

i wish my school was cool like everyone else's.

OP--According to my calendar, it's only December 10. How do 4 people know they're in? Did they all get likely letters? If they are just recruited, they might be surprised. I've seen a number of recruited athletes who think they are locks who have been rejected EA, not just deferred.

How many kids from your school usually get into Yale? If you're at Stuy, Harvard-Westlake, Andover, Exeter, etc. then 4 people getting in EA means nothing in terms of your chances for RD.

I go to a school that sent 1 person to yale last year - purely for academics. I thank you all for your responses. I feel slightly better now.

I go to a public school in FL and we've only had one person accepted in recent years (it was 3 years ago). That person turned Yale down for UF. Another kid applied last year. His brother (who went to another public school in the area) got accepted at Yale (he got in a couple years ago), but this kid got deferred EA then rejected. He's currently a freshman at Harvard. On the other hand, the local private school got 6 people into Yale last year. (Academically, they REALLY aren't that great...)

I'm feeling my chances are looking kinda bad as well. Not to mention the fact that I'm competing with 2 legacies who applied SCEA.

No one has been accepted to Yale from my school in the past five or six years :(

in my school, about 44% of the 180 graduating kids in year 2007 at my school got into ivy league

here's the breakdown of acceptances (for class of 2007)

7 Harvard
27 Cornell
5 Yale
5 Brown
8 Columbia
7 Dartmouth
5 Princeton

and that's excluding those who got into MIT, Stanford, Caltech, Williams, Amherst, UChicago, Northwestern, Cooper Union and other top-tier schools

way to rub it in, mayiplzgovertigo.
