Does my HS Schedule look good enough for college?

Bump; anyone?

I posted this earlier today:
<a href=“Messed up soph year? upenn chance? - Applying to College - College Confidential Forums”>Messed up soph year? upenn chance? - Applying to College - College Confidential Forums;

I’ll be honest, your math curriculum for Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years appears weak. Most kids at my school took Algebra 1 in 7th grade, Geometry in 8th grade, and Algebra 2 in 9th grade. The shift from Algebra 2 to AP Calc in one year seems rather odd in your situation.
Nevertheless, there are still plenty of other great universities and LAC’s which can provide a quality education.

Yeah… your schedule looks so weak for ivy tier schools… even like U mich would be a reach.

Ivy colleges typically look down on community colleges, so you might be in trouble there.

What are your ECs?
Going to CC doesn’t count as an EC.
Do you have dual enrollment with the local cc?

What are your SATs/ACT scores?

You need to know you will have to get all your high schools/community colleges to send official transcripts to each of the universities you apply to.
You need to work on your transcript to make your applications desirable to colleges.

Yes it’s dual enrollment.

Stats:

SAT: 2080 (730 CR, 640 M, 710 W)
SAT Subjects: (780 USHIST, 750 Lit)
GPA: 3.9 (unweighted, my school doesn’t do weighted) top 5% (school doesn’t specifically rank)
First in Freshman class
First in many of my CC classes
I’ll have 24 CC credits by my senior year in HS.
My college GPA is a 4.0

ECS:
Speech and Debate 1 year
Varsity Cheerleading 1 year
Write for my local community TIMES newspaper - Youngest Columnist ever
Intern for another paper called Evening Sun Newspaper as a news reporter and video editor, also their youngest reporter.
Began my own business at age 16 (still running, its a multimedia, family history dvd business, has turned profit, and been recognized by local media)
National Honor Society - President (we are very active)
Washington Journalism and Media Conference - Chosen to be youth correspondent
Penn - Pal to prison inmate program
Volunteer service at United Way and YWCA
Began community chapter of Teen Age Republicans so I am creator/chairman, I have headed up many projects and organized volunteering in elections
Began community/school supply drive titled Students Helping Students, collected and distributed 100 full supply kits to associated charities
Organized book drive at local school for charity “Room to Read”
Presented to many businesses in support of my own business, including the VA department, United Way, and College Business Seminar
Student Government at community college
Youngest on-going supporter of NOYs (national organization of youth safety)
Videographer for local Republican Committee
Volunteer in local elections, going door to door with candidates, handing out flyers, etc

My two main ecs which I am most passionate about and involved in are working for the local newspaper and running my business.

Looks pretty good to me! It looks like your school did math differently than mine did though.

Also I changed my schedule from AP Calc to AP Calc BC and from Law Studies to AP Spanish IV (I just found out my school will be offering these!)

I’ve changed schools 3 times and have had an annoying experience. I tested out of Algebra I in my freshman year and took Geometry. I then changed schools and they said this isn’t allowed and made me take Algebra I into Algebra II. Then I had to take an SAT and PSSA prep math and am just now taking pre-calc. Ughh! Also, 2 of my schools didn’t offer APs. My school now offers college courses as an “AP alternative” and just started up AP courses this year which will be the 3 I will take (AP Calc BC, AP English, and AP Spanish)

Sometimes I wish my parents didn’t move and I would have stayed in one great school that offere APs but it just didn’t work out this way. I’m not going to try to explain this to colleges, but maybe the different schools can somehow work out in my favor if I say something about being able to apply myself and assimiliate to a variety of academic environments.

Your ECs are insanely good.
Basically, the fact that you started a successful and profitable business sets you aside from other applicants.
Ivy leagues are not going to look down on the fact that a high schooler who took classes at a community college while still going to high school…thats just silly. College credits are college credits no matter where theyre from and if you got them in high school that is impressive even if its from community college.

You should retake the SAT (not that your score is bad) but if you could get it up to like a 2200, you might have a shot at an Ivy simply due to the fact that you have a lot of features in your application that make you different which is SO important since so many applicants have 4.0/36/2400s/…but have nothing unique. and you do! so good luck!

Thanks so much for the advice!
