Ive also taken earth science i really one to apply to prestigious schools and i want to show admission officers my dedication by takeing Ap COURSES please help

really need some help so if anyone has insight it’ll be greatly appreciated.

If your school offers AP courses in subjects that you are genuinely interested in, by all means take them. I can’t tell whether you could substitute one of your classes for an AP course; it’s likely you may not even be able to take some of those classes as AP. At my school a typical high-achieving sophomore will take one or two APs. Junior year is when you really load up because colleges look mostly at your junior year course load and grades.

Don’t take AP courses just because you want to impress admissions. Of course you should take challenging classes, but don’t feel pressured to take as many APs as possible in subjects that you don’t even really like. AP classes are lots of work, both at school and at home. You don’t want to be overloaded with homework for classes you took just because they have the letters “AP” in front of them. Leave time for EC’s and other activities that you’re passionate about.

thanks i’ve been really into AP us history and bio but i figured i can only take one so Im choosing AP history because i can now drop global and music. My schedule seems way to easy for a sophomore compared to other kids on this site.

Keep in mind that the kids on this site are not a representative subset of college-bound (or HYPMS-bound for that matter) HS students. Many schools limit the number of AP’s frosh and sophs can take. USH is usually a junior year course. Your schedule will be viewed by AO’s in the context of your school, not with what kids in other schools are taking.

Oh really I didnt know that. Ive been thinking about how i could be the best applicant while still doing things i enjoy. So its good to know that.

You should save physics for junior year, parallel to algebra 2, and take chemistry sophomore year.
Can you take AP world history? It fulfills the world history requirement for Regents. You could also take AP human geography.
However, you didn’t need to take AP classes as a sophomore.
I would take the same classes, but with hibokfd classes rather than regular, each time it’s possible.

any one elses thoughts on what i should do

Well, what do you rink of the ideas in post #6?

well know for the regents i dont need global for an advanced regents diploma so i could pick up ap ushistory since o loved the class i can take ap lit next year and hopefully ap bio also. Im aiming for 5 aps for sophomore and junior year. since thats typically what accepted applicants have and i dont want to overload on aps

You need to talk to your guidance counselor. You want a schedule strong enough that he/she will mark down that you took the most rigorous program available in your HS in the guidance counselor recommendation. No other opinion really matters.

i agree but its also a little overwhelming and from what ive heard my guidance counselor is rubbish and wont change your classes until your constantly asking so i just wanted to know what the best options were before i did something i would in the end, regret.

Are you sure you don’t need Global for regents?
You don’t need more than one AP sophomore year. Depending on your strengths, it could be AP psychology or AP human geography, some take AP world or AP euro, AP CS principles.
Your total number of AP 's by the end of senior year should be 4-8 for the most selective colleges.

AP bio assumes honors bio and honors chemistry and is better taken junior year, unless your school has a special AP bio class for sophomores.

yep im positive its a new change they made this year where globa is no longer needed for an advanced regents diploma. as for ap my school doesnt offer a copous amount. so thats why im focused for apush and apbio

No offense intended, but you need to concentrate on your English and grammar. Going just by your posts, you’re not an Ivy League applicant. Grammar matters. Work on it.

Your coursework doesn’t seem very advanced by Ivy league standards, but there are plenty of other good colleges out there.

I noticed you are taking physics instead of chemistry as is more common for sophomores. At our school you need to be taking algebra2 at least concurrently. That’s why physics usually comes last in the sequence of sciences.

start looking at a variety of universities - SUNYs, colleges nearby.

Well I’m typing on a cellphone on a discussion thread not really in a computer for a essay
