I got waitlisted to the NB Business but got accepted into NB School of Art and Science and Newark Business. I'd prefer to be in New Brunswick so I'm thinking that I'm going to go to NB-SAS.

I hope to go to SAS for 1 year and then transfer to the NB Business for accounting (if I don't get accepted into NB-Business as a transfer sophomore year I'll just go to Newark).

Can I go to SAS for 1 year and then transfer to NB Business and still graduate within 4 years for accounting? I'm scared that SAS won't have the core classes needed for accounting and I would have to finish college in 5 years or something.

I tried searching for a page which would show me all the courses that NB-SAS has to offer, but I can't find it.

Does SAS have these courses (which are required courses to transfer into NB-Business):
01:355:101 Expository Writing
01:220:102 Introduction to Microeconomics
01:220:103 Introduction to Macroeconomics
01:640:135 Calculus I (01:640:151 also accepted)
01:960:285 Introduction to Statistics for Business
01:198:170 Computer Applications for Business
33:010:272 Introduction to Financial Accounting*

The first year you will be taking all SAS classes. You don’t take accounting until your second year.

People who were (already) admitted to the NB Business school will be taking the same classes. If they do not maintain the required GPA, they will not be allowed to declare a major in RBS first semester of sophomore year.

D1 is in SEBS and she took several SAS classes last semester. I don’t think RU prohibits you taking classes across the different schools, as long as you have the pre-reqs and they are open. You may need to resist advisors trying to schedule you for classes that are irrelevant/unnecessary for RBS, such as a foreign language.

If that’s so, then would I not be able to fit in all the course that the business school requires in my 1st year?

I was hoping that I’d be able to complete all the business requirements in my 1st year (even though you only need to complete 2 of them). Reason being, I’m afraid that I would have to go to college for 5 years.

Most freshmen take 4-5 classes first semester and 5 classes second semester of freshman year. Your SAS core classes are required to graduate from Rutgers University. There are also the business prerequisites, but you can fit them in your first 3 semesters.

If you are unsure of what you should take, I would call the RBS admissions dept and ask to talk to the freshman advisor.

Ex of a freshman first year schedule for a business student hopeful:

Semester 1
Expos 1
Intro to Microeconomics
Calculus I (135)
General Psychology
Elective (something that fits your minor if you choose to do that or completes your SAS core requirement. Don’t overload yourself as Calc and Expos take up your time)
15 credits

Semester 2
Expos 2
Introduction to Macroeconomics
Comp Apps for Business
Intro Art History
Planet Earth
15 credits

Sophomore
Semester 1
Dinosaurs
Intro Stat for Business
Women Culture and Society
Intro to Financial Acctng
Elective
15 Credits

Most take the same classes 2nd semester sophomore:
(For a declared acctng major)
Intro to Managerial Acctng (for acctng majors section)
Financial Management
Principles of Management
Stat Methods for Business
Intro to Marketing
15 credits

Of course everyone will have a little different schedule because some have AP credits, some want to get credits for a minor, some take Intro Acctng during the summer, etc. You should always refer to Degree Navigator to make sure you are on track to fulfill your needed requirments for any program.

The point is, -most- of your classes freshmen year are spent fulfilling SAS core requirements, even for RBS. If you find that you are short credits in any particular area, you can always take a winter or summer session class. You may take non-business courses at your local community college as well. So you can get some electives or core requirement credits that way. You aren’t doomed to 5 years if you have to transfer in as a sophomore.

Let me repeat: this schedule is not set in stone. Some people will take some of these classes in a different order. As long as your SAS and RBS requirements are met, it should be fine.

Short answer: no. You just have to get it all done before graduation. Some classes are prerequisites for others, like Calc 1 and Expos 1, so you do need to follow some type of order. OTOH SAS core requirements like Global Awareness, Diversity, and Social Sciences may be taken later on without messing up your scheduling.
