I have seen where many people are receiving acceptance letters today. Three of my friends have also been lucky enough to get them. One of these friends literally lives 2 minutes up the road from me, but I didn't receive anything. Does this mean that I didn't get in? Do they still mail out letters for those who were deferred or rejected? Any information will be greatly appreciated because the stress is killing me. Knowing that some already know and I don't is not making me feel any better.

Are you instate?

Yes, I live a little over an hour away from Chapel Hill.

Someone actually posted that they received their letter YESTERDAY, and they were deferred, do I don’t think you can conclude that no letter means anything. Keep the faith, and good luck!

Don’t worry! Yours is coming. I’m sure they don’t send it in order of decision.

Thank you all so much. It is just so disheartening when everyone else is finding out that they’ve been accepted and you are just stuck waiting.

yes i just hope we will find out tomorrow! this is exactly what i thought…my boyfriend lives just up the road too and he got accepted

Yeah, I’ve never heard of colleges sending out only acceptances and then rejections later. Don’t stress. It’s probably just the fault of your local mail carrier, or they mailed yours a day later.

Good luck!

I agree!! After my Facebook newsfeed exploded with “Chapel Thrill” statuses (all deserving people, I’m not trying to be a killjoy and ruin this “happiest-moment-of-your-life” moment for anyone), I started waiting for a letter. After a while, I went out somewhere and on my way back, I saw so many mail trucks driving around it was RIDICULOUS…I didn’t get a letter today, but after reading some of these comments, I’m starting to hope again. Just in case anyone is wondering, I have a 4.22 GPA, 1780 SAT, 3 SAT II’s (550-600 scores), many extracurricular activities, and a well-written essay/recommendations (from English teachers), I believe. My SAT was a little on the low end for Chapel Thrill, but I don’t think it’s too awful. I also only have 2 AP’s, which are both next semester. (that’s bad, I know) Hope everyone on here gets in!

I think it does D’: and I’m so heartbroken right now. I didn’t even get deferred I think because my neighbor at least got a deferral letter. Makes sense that they don’t send out hard-copy rejection letters. I am a bit surprised that I didn’t even get deferred even though I am OOS.

Ellex: what state do you live in?

Virginia. And I’m almost 100% sure they sent them (acceptance & deferrals) all out to VA and UNC residents

Don’t be 100% sure. I’m telling you they do not send them out based on decision so the fact that you still haven’t gotten one while your neighbors have means NOTHING. Please don’t jump to conclusions now. You might feel really silly when you find out tomorrow.

I promise they send out letters no matter what the decision is. People on this forum have gotten acceptance, deferral, and rejection letters. I think that UNC made a huge misstep sending these letters out beforehand. Sure, the site crashes for the night, but everybody gets their decision around the same time and knows what it means. These letters are freaking everybody out, and it’s not fair. Good luck to everybody who has not gotten letters yet - just make sure that you log on tomorrow by 4:45 to check!

I’d assume it’s to avoid the crashes. People who got their letters won’t be logging on, so those who haven’t can actually see their decisions and avoid all the problems. Kind of smart imho.

I think it would be smart if everybody actually got their letters at the same time. I definitely think it’s a good idea to try to stop the crashing, but it’s causing so many people a ton of unnecessary stress. Last year I waited about an hour and a half to get my decision. Nobody I know couldn’t get on after a few hours. I would much rather that than having to wait a day or more after knowing that others had gotten their decisions. I just feel really bad for everybody whose friends have gotten letters but they didn’t get theirs today - I personally would have been flipping out all day and night until they put the decisions online.

Yeah, that’s true, if they indeed did mail out letters on two different days. If not, it may just be the fault of local mail, which they can’t really control. Who knows.

I have an update! All of that worrying was for nothing because I got my acceptance packet today. Anybody who did not get anything yesterday, don’t worry because there is still hope. Good Luck!

congrats, this waiting is nerve wracking

Congrats, and that’s encouraging news for all! I do think with all its flaws the online approach is better. I guess each approach brings its own unique stress.
