Hi,
I have been admitted to CAS class of 2017 and I got a financial aid package of 22k$. The thing is that my parents say they can pay the rest this year but in the consecutive years I would need to get funding in different ways because they cannot afford to pay that much every year (bacisally they will spend all their savings my freshman year). I am an international student from Poland. Would NYU increase my scholarships/FA next year (or even semester) if the need would be demonstrated?

Best to you all,
Anna

Simply put: No

NYU doesn’t meet need. They would expect you to either take out loans or find another way to pay.

Even if they did increase your aid, it would be a very small amount - certainly not enough to make a difference.

NYU2013

building on top of that, if NYU doesn’t give out more need-based scholarship/FA’s each year, does it give out more merit-based scholarships if you do well?

for instance, I just got a $1,000 Stern scholarship at the moment, and I’m curious on whether or not that scholarship can get bigger after each year if I do well in my studies at Stern.

I’m actually curious about the flip side of this. I’m pretty happy with my financial aid, but am I at any risk of getting less aid in subsequent years? (Outside of doing something like failing half of my classes)

Also, if my only working parent loses her job within the next four years (looking somewhat likely at this point), will I be given more financial aid?

RawrJjong - also no. Merit scholarships will not increase unless you demonstrate to financial aid desperate need, which even then isn’t guaranteed. Your FA was determined by a combination of your need and ‘desirability’ to the school; once you’re already at NYU they have no reason to give you a better scholarship because they’ve already attracted you to go there.

Danimals510 - your FA will stay the same. If you have academic scholarship, you will need to maintain a certain GPA to maintain that FA. You can find those requirements online.
