Is one required to take the SAT Subject Tests to get into Yale -- or any other Ivy for that matter? Can one just get in with stellar ACTs and SATs?

Or does it just improve one's chances?

Or does it just improve one's chances?

I believe Yale (and several other Ivies) require two subject tests. Harvard requires three. But if you weren’t able to take them because of some special circumstance, you can explain that.

Some schools allow you to skip subject tests if you take the ACT

"College Admissions Requirements - SAT Subject Tests

This table is meant to provide information on the testing requirements for every major college and university that requires, recommends, or considers the SAT Subject Tests as part of the admissions process"

Of course, you should confirm this with the schools you want to apply to.

You want to apply to Yale, and/or other Ivies…and you can’t look at their websites for their requirements? Just sayin’…

I. Am. Lazy.

ACT with writing is fine. But that’s off of memory. You should check the Yale website or at least your frickin application materials no?

And one thing: the Ivies are just dying to admit this type of student

“I. Am. Lazy.”

I had only ACT with writing and I got deferred SCEA…
you don’t need subject tests

maybe subject tests would’ve made you undeferred? hmm

For Yale, you can either submit the SAT and two subjects tests or submit just the ACT with writing. I was admitted SCEA with just the ACT with writing.

“Yale will accept the ACT Plus Writing alone. Bear in mind, however, that some Yale departments use the SAT I and/or SAT II Subject Tests for course placement.”
So, while they’re not required, if your scores are up to par, SAT IIs wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Thanks for all of the the responses, now I know.

BTW, one can be lazy but still be smart/brilliant/whatever. There must be a form of compromise that looks appealing to whoever’s judging. I always follow a simple ideology: Why spend time searching when one can just ask and have the answers delivered.

Again, thanks for all of the responses!

I sent in only the ACT and several others who got accepted also did that as well. I would suggest the ACT route maybe if you have a bad SAT 2 (like I did) or if you just want to save money. Yale states that they do not discriminate and it certainly didn’t hinder me.

“BTW, one can be lazy but still be smart/brilliant”

Yeah, but I don’t think that works so well getting into, or at top schools.

pigs-there were plenty of people WITH SAT IIs who go rejected, so i really doubt it comes down to scores
