Does one's major affect one's chances of admission?

like, would there be a better chance for me to get in to UPenn if i applied under nursing instead of business? are there different departments to apply to? like i would apply to upenn’s business school separately from upenn’s math department?

Penn has separate undergraduate schools (Wharton, Engineering, SAS, Nursing). You have to apply to one of the these schools, not to the departments (as far as I know). Some are less difficult to get into than others, so in that sense, yes the major does affect admission chances. I don't believe your major within each of these schools affects chances, however. At some other schools, major definately has a large influence on admission chances. For many others, it has little if any influence.
