Question says it all.

It’s a legitimate event and I suspect the attendees benefit personally. But as far as college admissions, not more so than someone else who chooses to work the summer at the grocery store or volunteering. Does it “help”? If your option is to do nothing and be lazy, then yes. Otherwise, it’s not better/worse than another activity.

I was just about to ask a similar question, if anybody knows; is the program as prestigious, i.e. well-respected and known by other universities, as they claim it is? “…our program has developed into one of the most selective and academically rigorous high school summer programs worldwide.” http://schooleducationharyana.gov.in/downloads_pdf/Circullers/Yale.pdf

No! I attended two years ago (PLE), and I was admitted to Yale’s class of 2018. HOWEVER, I doubt it was because of YYGS. If you want to go, it’s a great time/ experience and you learn lots of interesting stuff. It should not be used as a chip, though. They’re not admissions officers.

Also, the majority of the staff aren’t even associated with Yale. They mostly come from other ivies, aside from the star lecturers (Akhil Amar).

My son attended last year. It is selective (20% or so), and pretty grueling without much sleep. It was a great experience for my son. I do not think it helped him get accepted to Yale 2018, although he did have a senior interview while there. The one thing it did do was make him change his early application to Yale SCEA.

Well worth it, but not IMHO for its application benefit.

It’s even more selective, but not based on academics.

Except for the 15% or so who received some need based FA, the FIRST level of selectivity is based on those who can afford the $50 application fee plus $4,500+travel cost of the program.

^this is true and another important point. it’s expensive as hell. I had to get a summer job to pay for most of it, if you can do so, though, it’s well worth it.
