I'm not confident of my AP Macro Econ score (result pending), which I'm guessing is a 3, however, the colleges I'm looking at will ONLY give credit for Macro if you scored a 5. There's a possibility that I may minor in econ, however, I'm looking to avoid intro classes. There's an even greater possibility that econ courses in both macro and micro will be required in the fields of major I'm looking at: political science, international relations, and public policy.

Posing the question: Should I take retake the AP Macro Econ test next May, knowing full well that I will not be satisfied with the current result? If the answer is yes, how detrimental will it be to my college app?

I’m assuming that you’re a rising senior. If so, retaking the test next May would have no effect on college admissions (because it would be well after you submit applications and probably after you choose a school to matriculate into). If you need/want a 5 to fulfill some intro requirements, then there’s no harm in retaking the exam.

However, if you’re a rising sophomore/junior, then colleges will see that you’ve retaken the exam; nonetheless, I doubt it would have much effect. I’m not an expert on retaking AP exams though (colleges probably won’t care because it’s such a rare occurrence).
