So on NYU's financial aid website, the cost of room and board is listed as about $12000...this is consistent with the cost of most rooms shown in NYU's housing website...but does this $12000 include the price of a meal plan?!?
because if it doesn't, that would mean that the total cost for food and housing per year will be about $12000 + $3000 = $15000 +++ :O
current students please give me feedback...does the room and board cost include meal plans?

That's correct depending on what dorm you choose and what meal plan you want, but on average I think that's the price tag. =]

omfg that's crazy....i thought the legal definition of room AND board includes dining too....if what scary2hairy is saying is true, then why doesnt the estimated budget come up to be $55000 - $56000, because that will be the actual cost assuming the room and board doesnt include meals

Apparently, NYU is above the law.

Wow, I just revisited my NYU bill for both semesters. I dunno how my parents do it. God bless em.

For me, the explicit cost of going to NYU (Fall '07 and Spring '08) and not spending any cash on stuff for my dorm, going out to eat, etc...is $47,250 without any aid/scholarships.

lol call me crazy but that comes as a major relief to me....i will be enrolling in Stern soon and i expected the annual costs to be well over $55000...your $47000 isnt close to that figure lol...does your bill include tuition, room, AND meal plans??

Well, I'm a CAS freshman living in Rubin which is I think 4.3k for the academic year and I'm on the 175 FLEX.

hey i checked the costs for Rubin...it says its $6.5k....by how much does the housing and tuition rates typically increase every year...and does Rubin have really cramped rooms? because the housing website says that there are 3 kids per room :O

woops. I meant 4.3k per academic semester. Seems they hiked up the price though.

Don't know man. I've only been here for less than a year. If you really want to know, you may have better luck trying the website or calling the housing people.

The triples are really cramped. I've experienced it first hand as my suitemates live in a triple and their furniture is strangely arranged. I on the other hand, have a double which is huge, (I was on of the lucky ones since I got a suite, which contains a double and a triple) whereas some of the other double rooms in Rubin are SMALL.

NYU > Department of Housing

You don't need a meal plan if you have a kitchen in your dorm. (like third ave north)

The only way to get room and board for 12000 is to get the cheapest dorm possible (the LCT in hayden or rubin) and the $3450 meal plan
