So, looking at my cost of attendance, room and board are estimated to be about $13000. It can vary, but according to NYU it's based on average double occupancy and 19 meal plan. I looked online and average double occupancy is about $11000, then the 19 meal plan is about $2000. Sounds like it adds up, then in the heading above the meal plan chart it says "per semester". Is this just a typo online? Any current students know?

It is per semester like it says on the website

YES, it is per semester.

I am really confused too…maybe the cost of the double occupany is 9k and not 11 k…thats the only way it could make sense

Hi, The # for room and board ($13000) only makes sense if you use the lowest cost housing, a triple at around $8000-9000. The meal plan is approximately $4000 for two semesters. This then places the total close to or at the $13000 room and board cost cited in the NYU cost/fees section.

And for the record, the average cost of sophomore housing is even higher, so if you are on a really tight budget, keep that in mind.

Yes, they’re ridiculously expensive. Nobody buys meal plans anymore after freshman year except for the kids that can’t boil water.

btw if you’re in 3rd north and you move to a double occupancy your sophomore year, your housing cost stays the same. From other dorms, it will go up, unless you end up in an LCT at Laf.
