Does San Diego State accept Spring transfers?

I didnt get into SDSU this year with a 3.17 GPA applied for Biology, was only missing my ochem class, was thinking of going to one of the community colleges in SD and complete the ochem class there and then transferring. Would they accept Spring transfers? Im not trying to stay another whole year at a JC. Maybe then at the SD JC I can TAG to get into SDSU
Also got accepted to Santa Cruz, Irvine, SF State, Chico but SD was my first pic

No, they don’t accept spring transfers.

Why would you choose SDSU over UCI or even Santa Cruz??? Besides, didn’t you get better aid from the UCs???

BTW
with that GPA, what do you hope to do with a bio degree??

SDSU doesn’t accept Spring transfers and they don’t participate in TAG. Rather than killing time for a year, why not head straight to one of the schools that accepted you? UCI and UCSC are excellent.

actually some CSU campuses have a guarantee program. Somewhat confusingly, it has the same name as the UC program.

Given that the OP sounds like he is not currently attending a San Diego area CC, though, this path is moot

Mom asks "BTW
with that GPA, what do you hope to do with a bio degree?? "

The OP’s biggest problem is not going to be the name of the school on the diploma. Funny how she/he focuses on this “dilemma” instead of the elephants in the room. I don’t know how much planning the OP has done regarding PA training (I suspect not much), but in about 3 minutes I found this:

Its wonderful to have dreams, but the OP doesn’t seem to have done much of the legwork in turning dreams into reality. With a tess-than-competitive GPA (that somehow is going to become a high GPA) and no apparent plans for getting relevant medical experience this seems like a plan destined to fail, sad to say.

@mom2collegekids - My youngest chose SDSU over UCLA and UCSD, and has several Aztec friends who made similar decisions. It was the perfect decision for him, and he hasn’t regretted it.

Even if I had the opportunity to go elsewhere, I’d STILL choose SDSU
hands down! Go Aztecs!

@ Mikemac - I stand corrected on TAG for CSU. Silly me, thinking they’d call their ‘local’ program something different than the state-wide UC TAG. Sometimes I think the CA College system sets out to confuse kids trying to navigate what should be a pretty simple process. I wonder who had it first

@fish125 and @raychil89 you are kind of missing the point. The OP didn’t get into SDSU this term. That choice is unavailable to him but, he was admitted to several other, very reputable schools. UCSC, UCI, Chico and SF State.

His question was - since he didn’t get into his dream school, should he put his life on hold, stick with a CC, try to bring his stats up and take another run at San Diego next year - or should he head to one of the places that will have him now.

How would you advise him to proceed?

Hi! @NCalRent! I was responding to the question by another poster why the OP would want to go to SDSU over UCI/UCSC, and was not responding to the OP. I’m sorry if I didn’t make that clearer.

As for the original poster, I don’t have enough information to advise since I don’t know why the OP prefers SDSU to the other schools. Cost? Location? Department? And I’m a firm believer that sometimes one’s best choice is not their first choice for a college.

@NCalRent No point was missed. The answer had already been given to the OP so re-stating the facts seemed a bit redundant. SDSU does not accept students during the spring semester and TAG is not an option, unfortunately. My response was to the second commenter of the thread asking the OP why he/she wishes to go to SDSU as though SDSU is not a good choice. It is a great and highly desired school. Not every person desires to attend a UC or an Ivy League.

Now if I were in the OP’s position and SDSU was my top choice, here is my bit of advice:

I’d do exactly what the OP stated in his/her original post by transferring to a local CC. I’d then recommend earning an AA/AS-T in one of the several programs offered locally that transfer over to SDSU and use this time to begin working on improving the GPA. Most AA/AS-T programs are highly impacted and some require a GPA of about a 3.5 or better to be considered since the applicant pools are usually so large year to year. List of AA/AS-T programs are here: http://arweb.sdsu.edu/es/admissions/transfers/associate-transfer.html

Unfortunately, Biology is not one of them but once admitted to SDSU, it is still possible to change majors even though they say it cannot be done. Even if the OP earns an AA/AS-T in a different area of study, it may still be possible to switch back to the biology major assuming the school of biology signs off of the change.

Since TAG is out of the question considering one would need to take 100% of their units at a local school in order to be eligible as @mikemac stated in his comment, the AA/AS-T route is the best option. If the AA/AS-T can be completed in time locally, I’d then reapply in the fall. The OP will have a much better chance at getting accepted if an AA/AS-T is earned locally and with an improved GPA.

FWIW, I was told I qualified for TAG - golden 4 done, all major done (except one that wasn’t offered any time in the last decade), major not offered at CSUSM- was still denied. I got in on appeal, with a multitude of extenuating circumstances. I say go with one of the schools you got in to, don’t waste a year on something that’s not guaranteed.

My major is Business, GPA 3.45, local area, earned AST but still got denied. This is my second year got denied. I already submitted the appeal form. Will I get in? because I know they don’t accept students who are appeal. (Small percentage) Should I go business department and ask for my reason to denied? I asked be admission and they said they don’t have specific reason why I got denied and told me to submit the appeal form

@busineslady - if you’ve been rejected twice, it is time to move on. SDSU is not your destiny.
In my experience, if you missed a requirement, they’d tell you. If you didn’t have a competitive application, they won’t. Odds are your GPA was too low.

SDSU is over-run with transfer applicants every year and there simply aren’t enough seats to go around. More than 20k applicants put in for about 5k seats last year.

Fortunately, there are 22 other CSUs. Hopefully you applied elsewhere and have other options.

@alexisNS I sincerely believe that your initial denial was a mistake on SDSU’s part. You were a TAG student and you were missing one class that, like you said, wasn’t offered for many years. You did everything you were supposed to do and I think the school realized that it was not in your control so they let you in. I am assuming they must not have done all the research initially about that missing class and just automatically rejected your application when they saw that you were 1 class short. Appeals no matter how well they are written are most times still denied as you more than likely already know, but you had a DARN good reason. I’m happy it worked out for you.

4.0GPA
Missed only one speech class got denied. Do you think I can talk to them for review?

Is there a reason you couldn’t take the class?
