Hello everyone. I am currently a California community college student that will be transferring to a 4 year university next year. I am majoring in Environmental Science and am currently looking at the schools listed below. Davis or Cal Poly would be ideal but my GPA of 3.2 may be a problem. Any advice would be much appreciated, Thank you!
Chico State
CSU Monterey Bay
Cal Poly Slo
UC Davis
Humboldt State
The TAG threshold for Enviro Sci is 3.2 so, I’d encourage you to take a shot. Use TAG if you can.
SLO is unlikely but, I think you will make it into the rest.
Good luck.
TAGing to UCD would be the best option, since your GPA is no guarantee if you apply without TAG.
Expected acceptance rate for Env Sci and Management for transfers to SLO is around 60% and Env Soil Sci is around 90% so pretty good odds.
For the rest of the CSU’s, you look good.
Thank you for your response. I am definitely planning on discussing a TAG with UCD when the semester starts back up. Let’s say I’m limited to the CSU’s, where would you guys recommended going for Environmental Science? Humboldt looks good from what I have read online but it is pretty isolated which may limit internship opportunities. Chico seems like a good compromise because there is plenty of access to nature and it’s within driving distance to Sacramento.
SLO is also very good for Environmental Science and has good job/internship opportunities.
You might want to take a look at UC Santa Cruz. A 3.2 GPA will probably get you in and is a ranked school for Environmental science.
Why would you be limited to the CSUs? Your GPA is decent - you can likely be admitted to some of the UCs, even without TAG. Davis/Irvine are possible (but unlikely without TAG). UCR, UCSC and UCM are stronger possibilities…
