You know how when you take the sat it says send scores to blah blah schools.. Does it actually help your admission process and does it matter if you didn't send scores to a school you are thinking about applying to.

of course! schools will automatically admit you for shown interest.

no, just kidding. i think they’ll just start an app file for you. i didn’t bother doing that though–i opted to send my scores during the application turn-in time period (~november/december) so that i could be sure my scores would not be lost. sometimes you can’t be sure if they correctly match you with your scores if you send them in too early.

Ok, there’s so many people that try to purposely show interest just to impress colleges because they think that it will help them in the college admissions process.

I am not an admissions officer, so I can’t speak for them, but in my opinion, I highly doubt that this will matter at all in terms of helping your application. Applying to a college, atleast for top colleges, already shows your interest for that college, and considering how competitive everything is, they probably won’t care for these small details.

All that happens by sending scores early is you get a crapload of information that they’ll stuff your mailbox and email with.

But I’m of the opinion that there’s really no harm in it. You get 4 schools to send scores to for free, so might as well use them. Then you don’t have to pay for them later.

It depends on the situation but there are some strategies. Don’t send scores to any SAT optional schools until you are sure you want to submit scores. On the other hand, since many colleges superscore you probably won’t be hurt by sending scores from your first sitting even if they work out a bit low. Remember that schools consider your application complete once they have a set of scores on file for you, even if you submit a second set of scores later. So if you know you want to apply to a school ED, you can send junior year scores. So your file can be complete as of October 1 (once you’ve submitted all the other components), and then you can always submit any additional scores. It also helps with getting rolling apps complete. Plus the scores get to the schools faster than when you send them out individually.
