Does SSP or any summer programs boost the acceptance rate of admission at IVY schools

Can any one comment on this please? Does RSI/SSP/Telluride/Research Internships boos the chances of getting accepted at IVY Schools or any 7-year med programs? Of course, GPA, Rank, SAT, SAT II, EC are all important factors as well. My main question is, does it make soense to spend $5000+ for the summer programs? Thanks

no it doesn't make sense to spend that much.. the programs you mentioned are either free or don't cost that much .. and they do help

I believe most of those programs are free?
The $5000+ programs are usually sponsored by independent organizations, and so while they might be rewarding experiences, I don't think they help much in the application process.

I live in Florida. I wan to to try for the Federal Govt. Internships for High School students. To name few

NASA
EPA

Florida Governor Program for talented/gifted children etc,

That's right yo - if it's prestigious enough, it will be funded by someone or another :D

Many internships will even pay you a stipend...

I think the colleges are more interested in what you gained from attending the program rather than actually being accepted. Some make the most of their time and gain a lot of knowledge and others blow it. Apply to a summer program that you know you will enjoy and be able to share your experience.

The highly competitive programs, that will boost admission, are generally free. Competitive internships will pay you.

"Prestigious" Pay to Play programs with high tuition are businesses and don't boost anything. Buying a summer at Harvard or Brown does not get you into Harvard or Brown. They are fun, they are good, but they are not a magic button.

What gets you into Harvard or Brown is WHAT YOU GOT OUT OF YOUR SUMMER, be it at a paid summer course or working mowing lawns. How did you grow; what did you learn; how did it change you as a person?
