does stern care about EC's?

mine are pretty okay, and I'm wondering if that, along with minority status and being female can make up for a just barely below average (by less than 0.1) GPA.

Absolutely. I know from just having been accepted.

yes, that will distinguish yourself from the pool of thousands of applicants. o yeah, by the way, the acceptance rate will be lower this year for stern.

Oh, I'm a junior and I want to apply ED next year. But, why is that?

I've heard rumors that the 2009/2013 class will have the hardest time getting into college. It sucks to be us, if there's any substance to that rumor.

We're the peak of the echo of the baby boom. It's completely true...

You will see on a different thread that NYU received a record number of applications this year.

2008/2012 is having a tougher time than the year before, and I would not be surprised if 2009/2013 will be as tough or tougher.

hannahtstic - Make sure that you have "your ducklings in a row", work hard this year and finish with your best GPA, (re)take SAT's until you are comfortable with your scores, make sure to be unique in your essay answers, and keep those EC's going. Don't hesitate to apply ED if NYU is "it" for you, but also consider applying to some EA schools or have some safeties to fall back on. Don't feel that you would be jinxing yourself in doing so. I have seen kids be conservative & dilligent and come out on top. And remember, in the end, whatever is meant to be, will be.

thanks for the advice, I'll keep all of it in mind. I'm definitely planning on applying early, and praying a ton. Are you at Stern now?

hannahtastic - no, but my D will be at NYU in the fall, and I attended NYU's business school before it was called Stern :D.

Can someone who's at Stern now tell me about what their EC's were, and how they think theirs compare to most of the population?

Thanks!

in reference to the acceptance rate posts, stern this year went over on its expected yield by 30ish kids. in previous years it has only been by like 2-4. So GOOD LUCK!

but, if I apply ED, then the yield thing won't matter as much, because they know they'll yield everyone they accept, correct?

since they underestimated their yield, they'll have to make it harder to get in. You're still going to be affected since they don't have to accept as many people ED now that the school is popular enough to get what usually are more competetive kids through RD.
