Chances at NYU ED

Hello,

I was wondering if I have the slightest chance of getting into NYU Stern [ED] ?

3.8 W 3.5 UW

Sat I: 2010

Sat II's: haven't taken them yet, probably about 650-710 on each.

5-6 Honors and AP's....AP tests are in May

I won't list all my ec's but standouts for me would be Eagle Scout, volunteer work with the army, extensive leadership training etc. [also I plan to do an internship with Merril Lynch this summer]

Thanks!

slim to none

hey thanks for the feedback

but how did you come to your conclusion?

just based on GPA?

because I do have more EC's and my SAT is not absymal.

I agree with jj. If you were applying to NYU Arts and Sciences, you'd be competetive, but Stern is one of the top business schools in the country and it's standards are near Ivy levels. Neither your GPA or SATs are in that league. If business is your thing, you need to look at business schools that are somewhat less selective.

hmm...I can raise the SAT score....but my GPA really stays around 3.6-3.7 UW

you honestly think it is A LONG shot

I haven't listed everything

I will do so when I get back.

thanks for the opinions

btw carnegie is just as hard to get into right?

Yep. At least as hard.

dont let these people discourage you from applying

Yes, its a reach, but it's very attainable.

your well above the 50th percentile of SATs for NYU

^^^^
haha. no. not for stern, pal.

just as the dude after me said CAS maybe, but stern no way. gpa and grades factor huge into a stern decision. one should have a 1400+ and a 3.8 too feel good about stern. amptron2x hit it on the button. its all about stern, not the stats

how did you come to your conclusion? I talked with my guidance couns. today and she said I had a fair chance...the whole adimission process is kinda sketchy, but if I can convince an officer that NYU is really my school, then it should'nt be a problem...[essays can make or break ones acceptance, you know]. The whole reason I would like to go to NYU or a similar private is because they look at a person WHOLLY and to them, I am simply not a number.

so you are right, chances are probably slim...but I am fixed on going there...so maybe a transfer.

thanks.

Ok this would be an updated post...

NYU Stern

3.8 W [these obviously will change, I hope]
3.5 UW

Our School doesn't rank...defin. top 25%....Very competitive school in the Bay Area

We cannot take AP courses before 11th

So far:

AP US HISTORY
AP PHYISCS
AP MACROECONOMICS
AP MICROECONOMICS
AP STAT.
AP COMPUTER SCI
AP PYSCHOLOGY

Sat I: 2010 [retake in June] they aren't too high...should I try act?
[V 660][M 680]

Sat II's: haven't taken them yet, probably about 650-710 on each.

EC's

Eagle Scout [senior patrol leader, order of the arrow...etc]
Leadership training with Rotary International
Volunteer work at Lucille Packard Children's hospital [Stanford]
Volunteer work with the army [soldiers coming back from Iraq]
Merrill Lynch internship this summer
Golf academy, 6 years
Boy Scout, 6 years
Piano, 4 years
NHS, 2 years
FBLA 2 years
Key and interact club 2 years

Other stuff, not sure how relevant they are

thank you.

if not stern, do you recommend anything else? apparently Stern is a super reach.

Stern is attainable its a reach but its a shot worth taking for ED, you might want to consider BU and some other schools that are solid but a step down from Stern if you get rejected or deferred

NYU doesn't defer ED, you're either accepted or rejected, no second chances. Happened to me last year and now I'm trying to transfer.

NYU normally sends well qualified people deferred to their GS school

just wondering, where else do you plan to apply?

With your current stats NYU is a huge reach. You said you plan to improve your SAT & GPA...you would be much more realistic with a 2100+ & a 3.7+.

what about CAS?

is that a lot easier?

I really don't want to apply anywhere else....I really would like to go to NYU even if it means transfering in...which is just as hard...do you think the local NY community colleges have transfer agreements that gurantee a spot?

stern is harder than cas, but cas is still hard. you would not be 100% in for cas, but your chances would be significantly higher than stern. your chances for stern are pretty much 0.

lol thanks for giving me hope.
