Does taking a class off senior year significantly impact your ability to get into college?

For reference, I have 27.5 out of 24 credits to graduate (still have a couple requirements, like a fourth year of English). When I go into my senior year this fall, I’ll be taking the following classes:

  • AP Calculus BC
  • AP Government and Politics/AP Microeconomics (they're a semester each at our school but we take both exams)
  • AP English Literature
  • AP Computer Science Principles
  • AICE Business (considered AP-level)
  • Medlab 4 (essentially phlebotomy and lab tests - I'll get my phlebotomy certification)
  • No Class Seventh

I’m taking seventh off because I don’t want to overload myself with work. I had the option to take AP Biology, but the teacher at my school isn’t the greatest and I would rather take the actual college class rather than a diluted, poorly-taught version. It would really help me to have that time for assignments and to study. And when I’m not, I could spend some time volunteering.

My GPA is 3.9, HPA is 4.5, and SAT is just under 1400, but I’m waiting on my June results (which I feel fairly confident about).

I’m just worried that colleges will think I’m “taking it easy”, but I really don’t think I can handle taking AP Bio,and that would be my only option.

Thanks for your input!

No not at all. You have 6 AP level classes. Many schools including where my kids go allow for a study hall.
The only issue you might have is that depending on how your school calculates class rank, having one less class could lower your ranking. This will not effect getting into college, but if that is something that matters to you, then it could be something to consider.

Have you reached level 3 or 4 in a foreign language? If so, your schedule is perfectly fine. If not, take it

@fleishmo6 Thank you! My rank is 28/780ish and I plan to keep it somewhere around there, but I’m not too concerned about that aspect regardless

@MYOS1634 Yep! I took Spanish 3 last year  Thank you!
